The actb (austrian and central european travel business), a special trade fair for austrian and central european incoming agencies, took place from 22nd to 24th January 2012 and brought 422 enterprises from 48 nations to Vienna to establish new contacts as well as to strengthen existing business relationships.

Needless to say that also the Tyrolean Evening of the Gundolf Family was present, amongst others due to this year’s cultural main focus “Passion for tradition” of the Austrian National Tourist Office.

This passion for traditions, especially in connection with typical Tyrolean music, is communicated by the Gundolf Family already for more than 40 years. Their Tyrolean Evening at the restaurant Gasthaus Sandwirt am Inn presents authentic folk music, Tyrolean dances and shoe-slapping as well as typical Tyrolean songs and yodelling to an international audience. This evening is without doubt one of the highlights for visitors of the city of Innsbruck.

Teenager from Fukushima were guests at the Tyrolean Evening of the Gundolf Family

All of us still have the pictures of the earthquake, the tsunami and the nuclear catastrophe from Fukushima before our eyes.

To make a group of teenagers from Fukushima forget the traumatic happings in their home country, Rotary International invited them to Austria.

A highlight of the journey was the Tyrolean Evening of the Gundolf Family at the restaurant Gasthaus Sandwirt am Inn on August, 7th where a part of the Japanese group could get to know Tyrolean culture. With typical Tyrolan folk music and dances, shoe slapping and yodel songs the concerns of the girls and boys took a back seat for a while.

Also if we originate from different culture groups and speak a different language – this evening has confirmed once again: music and hospitality conncet people and become a gleam of hope in any difficult situation.

On the 28th of February 2011 the Gundolf family gave a concert in the Vienna Concert Hall together with the African group “Mamadou Diabate's Percussion Mania“ from Burkina Faso.

The evening was themed “Xylophon + Balafon“ / Glowing of the Alps from Vienna to West-Africa.

The Gundolf family performed the first part of the evening with percussive instruments like Xylophone and Hackbrett (typical tyrolean string instrument). Their program was completed with traditional brass music, string music with Raffele (old tyrolean string instrument), Zither, Harp, yodelling songs as well as musical specials like the Singing Saw and Alphorn-sounds.

The Vienna Audience was thrilled by the tyrolean-african performance and brought the artists back to the stage with a frenetic applause.
